In 1969 Frank Tavares was teaching 6th grade in the Rockford public schools and working partime at WROK when the college approached him about developing and teaching a course on broadcasting in the night school.
You might know Frank Tavares as the 30-year voice of National Public Radio’s underwriting announcements at the end of many NPR programs. Today he teaches broadcast management, media production, advertising and marketing at Southern Connecticut State University.
Frank Tavares credits the RC night school class with making him realize he wanted to teach full time at the college level. He wrote “So I’m blaming…your classmates for a major shift in my career and aspirations.”
